A: The really big guys, especially referring to pro bodybuilders, tend to use an abundance of almost anything and everything in their training—because they have, um, “special” supplements to help them recover. That and superior genetics allow them to train rather haphazardly and still grow like crazy (we know, it’s not fair).
One pro who trained very scientifically when he was competing (and still does today) is Ben Pakulski—and it paid off BIG for him. He even rocketed all the way to 2nd place in the ’13 Arnold Classic, with Dexter Jackson just squeaking by him to win, and he went on to take top honors at the Vancouver Pro show a few years ago. Here’s how Ben looked as the runner-up in the Arnold Classic (oh, and he won the Most Muscular award too)…
Ben has a degree in kinesiology and is a student of proper training for ultimate hypertrophy. He’s even been under the wing of the late Olympic coach and muscle-building expert Charles Poliquin. Charles was a good friend of ours and really knew his stuff…
Ben’s training system is called MI40, and it’s based on 40 seconds of hypertrophic tension time—just like our 4X—and 40 seconds of rest between sets—just like 4X.
With his system he includes a number of videos that show his special ways of doing exercises for more growth-promoting tension (a.k.a. “Intentions”).
