Here’s an impressive shot of massive Ronnie Coleman, so delirious from contest dieting that he went shirt shopping at Baby Gap.
Coleman won the Mr. Olympia eight times, and his incredible monstrous physique set a new standard in the pro ranks.…
His training was also legendary, with off-the-charts strength. He demonstrated it often on his best-selling training videos.
While many thought his workouts consisted mainly of ultra-heavy singles and doubles, he mentioned in later interviews that those were done as demonstrations for the camera. His real training was a bit less powerlifting and more bodybuilding…
There is plenty of footage of him doing sets of 20 on many exercises. But a lot of his sets were still crazy heavy. He could never let go of low-rep strength demos. His powerlifting past wouldn’t allow it…
Unfortunately, he paid the price with severe a back injury, having to endure multiple surgeries. He uses a walker to get around, but he still hits the gym regularly.
We’re not ones to criticize the training of one of the greatest bodybuilders ever, but the latest research shows that ultra-heavy poundages are not necessary to build maximum mass (see the new ebook)…
With his genetics and specific “supplementation,” Coleman probably would’ve been able to get it done without spine-crushing weights and better exercise choices.
Still, in a recent interview, he said that he would do it all over again the same way despite his current injuries and mobility problems.
We will not tip our hat to that, but we will say that he was one of the greatest to ever grace a posing dais, with mass and conditioning that could make your jaw hit the floor…
Till next time, train hard—and smart—for BIG results.
