The sissy squat is a much more direct and complete quad exercise than the barbell back squat, despite the fact that you use much more weight for a squat.
One reason is that the resistance on a back squat more directly targets your glutes and lower back than your quads. In fact, quads receive only about 30 percent of the load according to biomechanics analysis.
