Here’s a great shot of Lee Labrada and his son Hunter ready for a gun fight: Walk 10 paces, turn, then hit a double-barreled flex. Whoever says, “Holy crap!” first loses (It’s usually a tie)…
Hunter is an IFBB pro and Lee is now in his 60s. Those arms make us think Lee could get onstage now and blow some minds. Here’s another shot of proud dad Lee critiquing Hunter’s Olympia condition, in his mind saying, “Holy crap!”
What’s Lee’s bodybuilding longevity secret? For most of his career he subscribed to the Lee Haney school of “stimulate don’t annihilate” your muscles during workouts…
He fused that with the Mike Mentzer shorter-but-intense workouts using only moderate poundages with control.
It’s never been about pushing as much weight as possible for Lee but more about reaching the “growth threshold” for each muscle. Here’s Lee’s definition…
The growth threshold is the point at which the level of fatigue in the muscle is high enough that a growth response is elicited. Your goal during a workout should be to fatigue the target muscles you are training more and more with each succeeding set. Signals are sent to the brain that set up the compensation, or growth, process during the post workout period, so that in future workouts, you can handle it.
You can reach the growth threshold for each muscle safely and efficiently with STX (slow-twitch exhaustion) target training. It provides precise hypertrophy stimulus for all muscle fiber types as quickly as possible. Plus, each upper-body and lower-body workouts lasts only 40 minutes. (See the ebooks below)…
Till next time, train hard—and smart—for BIG results.
