Your Recovery Base for More Muscle

Q: I’ve been on the Full-Body [Wave] Workout [page 19 in UMW Reloaded] for a month. Seeing lots of new muscle. One problem is that I feel like the two-day rest over the weekend is too much. Sunday I’m ready to train again. That’s hard to do because it’s a family day. Any ideas on a fix, or am I just being a mental case?

A: Well, you said that you’ve put on new muscle with the Full-Body Wave, so maybe you are being somewhat compulsive…

No judgment. I’m right there with you—never satisfied. Most bodybuilders are impatient with their progress…

Nevertheless, experimentation can give you new mass stimulation. In other words, even a small change can trigger rejuvenated gains…

Then again, it can sometimes take a training overhaul. That’s because a workout you’ve been on can go stale—you adapt physically and/or get bored mentally…

Two solutions come to mind:

1) Up your intensity at your Friday workout. Try going to failure—all out—on both phases of your STX sequences for the priority muscles (first half of the workout). Also, go closer to failure on the muscles you de-emphasize (second half of the workout).

2) Change to an upper-body/lower-body split workout. Switch to the STX-based workout or Doug Brignole’s SSS-style workout listed at the end of Never Stop Growing.

From your question, I’d guess that you’re enjoying and progressing well with the Full-Body Wave, so go with #1 above first.

You should still be feeling your extra Friday effort on Sunday.

And never sacrifice your family day. That’s priority 1.
