We’ve been analyzing the indirect mass effect—how you get work for smaller muscles when you train larger ones, a good thing if you’re careful…

You’ve seen how training back also hits biceps, while pressing for chest works triceps…

But are you getting indirect work for chest and back later in the Old Man, Young Muscle workout?

If you look at it laid out on page 60, you’ll see two-dumbbell pullovers toward the end of the session…

That’s an exercise that trains primarily the lats’ stretch position, as well as the triceps long head. So there’s your indirect lat work and a bit more for tri’s…

As for mid-back, the forward-lean shrugs after shoulders trains your upper traps, but also involves the middle traps to a degree…

So the only missing indirectly trained muscles are the pecs.

To get that extra chest stimulation late in the workout, tack it on to your triceps extensions…

After the last set, rep out with palms-facing dumbbell bench presses. You’ll add to your triceps pump as well as reload your pecs.

But there’s still one more missing muscle that you aren’t training indirectly: the lateral-delt heads.
