It has to do with blood pooling in the target muscle that enhances anabolic receptor response—more mass because of that blood bath.
That makes sense because muscles that pump easily are usually your best responders. The question is, can you improve that response somehow by enhancing and accelerating blood pooling?
I think the answer is yes. And it’s one reason unilateral, or one-limb, exercises are some of the best mass builders…
For example, when you do a concentration curl for biceps, your focus is on that one muscle on that single arm. That means there’s no bilateral deficit, a weakness that occurs when your train both arms at at the same time—but it means something more…
If you work all sets for that one biceps with short rests between, you’ll get a massive amount of blood in that one biceps quickly…
Remember, you’ve only got so much blood to go around, and by working through all sets for that one arm, there’s no sharing that size syrup with the other biceps—no blood-mooching from the other side.
If you’ve read the new ebook, you know that I train all sets for each biceps exercises for one arm only, then I do the same for the other arm. I almost never alternate arms…
Same for shoulders and calves—one leg at time all the way through; then I train the other leg.
Unfortunately, in my home gym, I can’t use unilateral exercises for all muscles without having paramedics standing by—old man flips off bench, possible hip fracture.…
In a commercial gym, however, it would be no problem—one-leg leg extensions, one-leg leg curls and so on.
Even if you don’t do unilateral blood-bath training at every workout, you may want to integrate it into your rotation—especially for lagging body parts.
Because focusing on a one-limb blood bath can exponentially jack up your mass.
