A couple of newsletters back, I mentioned that trainees who don’t need to emphasize chest mass could delete the dumbbells flyes from this full-POF chest routine:
Cable chest press (ideal) + DB flyes (stretch) + Cable flyes (contracted)
You can get rid of flyes because you do get some stretch loading with cable flyes; however…
The torque curve is different, with cable flyes being less stretch dominant—more torque at contraction.
If you drop the DB flyes, I recommend adding end-of-set X-Rep partials to cable flyes for some extra stretch activation to better cover that base…
Cable chest press (ideal) + Cable flyes with end-of-set X-Reps (contracted/stretch)
Something you may want to consider is that many bodybuilders have great lower pecs while being deficient in the upper area..
In that case, you may want to keep the DB flyes as the middle exercise, but do them on a low incline, as mentioned in OMYM2.
Low-incline dumbbell flyes will emphasize the upper-pec fibers. A 30-degree incline is about right to hit the upper area including the clavicular heads.
Cable chest press (ideal) + 30-degree incline DB flyes (stretch) + Cable flyes (contracted)
