For a killer forearm workout, Arnold and Franco would head down to the docks and tie knots in the giant ropes holding the boats. Here they are resting after tying multiple Slip Knots as a prank on a crusty old tug-boat captain. They were permanently banned from the docks in 1969…
Many people don’t realize that Franco Columbu was a champion boxer in Italy before bodybuilding hooked him…
He was great in the ring, but he loved working out with weights—at least more than getting punched in the face. One reason the gym was attractive was that he was incredibly strong. He got even stronger when he came to America and trained with Arnold.
Here he is making like a human forklift on the three power moves…
But it was his thick physique that put him at the top of bodybuilding. He was only 5’5” tall and won the Mr. Olympia twice, in 1976 and 1981…
His split pecs and manta ray back were especially jaw dropping…
Franco passed away in 2019 at the age of 78 in Italy after feeling unwell. But his legendary physique and strength feats live on—not to mention his heart-felt camaraderie with Arnold.
Note: Watch the three-part Netflix documentary on Arnold. He talks about Franco being his best friend and how they helped each other succeed in the gym and out.
Till next time, train hard—and smart—for BIG results.
