Here’s an impressive shot of Ronnie Coleman at his elementary school graduation pool party.

Okay, he probably wasn’t that young, but this early shot showcases his incredible bodybuilding genetics.
Coleman won the Mr. Olympia eight times, and his monstrous physique set a new standard in the pro ranks…

His training was also legendary, with off-the-charts strength. He demonstrated it often on his best-selling training videos, filmed by Mitsuru Okabe.
While many thought his workouts consisted mainly of ultra-heavy singles and doubles, he mentioned in later interviews that those were done as demonstrations for the camera. His real training was a bit less powerlifting and more bodybuilding…
There’s plenty of footage of him doing sets of 20 on many exercises. Even so, a lot of his sets were still crazy heavy. He could never let go of low-rep strength demos. His powerlifting past wouldn’t allow it…
And he used a lot of stretch overload, often due to extreme poundages. For example, on barbell shrugs, he did only bottom-end partials, which elongated the traps against excessive stress.
And he favored heavy deadlifts—all trap stretch, no contraction—and heavy sets of bench presses that were only the bottom half of the stroke…
He’s proof that some partials in the stretch position can improve your muscle-growth situation—although he was on special “supplements.” Always be careful with stretch overload—it’s where the muscle is most vulnerable. (For the best muscle-building stretch moves and how to do them safely, see the new ebook.)
Till next time, train hard—and smart—for BIG results.
