Steve: Full-Body (antagonist supersets)

Steve Holman after one month of X-Rep training

Gym was empty, felt motivated. Put in some good full-body work today–lots of sweat and pump was awesome. Couple of new moves today… [Read more…]

Steve: Full-Body (opposing supersets)

Steve Holman after one month of X-Rep training

Once I got started today, I realized that Wednesdays should actually be a pared down version of my Monday and Friday full-body workouts. That will create “undulating” intensity/volume to avoid overtraining. Unfortunately, I didn’t do much to downshift today. In fact, I began with a pretty rigorous superset of two types of squats and actually added a superset. D’oh!… [Read more…]

Steve: Full-Body (opposing-muscle supersets)

Steve Holman after one month of X-Rep training

Felt a bit under the weather this morning–too much football watching yesterday maybe. Lol. I plowed through my workout of opposing-muscle supersets anyway, and it actually felt pretty good–although on the very first superset I had to substitute DB stiff-legged deadlifts for Flat-back hypers. Interesting how much more of a drain the deadlifts are… [Read more…]

Steve: Full-Body (antagonist-muscle supersets)

Steve Holman after one month of X-Rep training

I hit the gym with a lot of motivation. My full-body workout was swirling in my head, and I was telling myself, “Okay, you need to add this for chest and that for delts.” Then I realized that the reason I was motivated: I was recovered from my last workout on Tuesday. Why add more work and possibly drain and overtrain myself? It’s one reason I often say that motivation can be your enemy. I came to my senses and pretty much mirrored Tuesday’s workout–with a few exercise switches… [Read more…]

Steve: Full-Body (opposing-muscle supersets)

Steve Holman after one month of X-Rep training

I had such a great workout last week with opposing-muscle supersets that I decided to continue with it today. It took me a few rounds to get going, but once the blood was flowing, motivation and a big pump showed up big… [Read more…]

Steve: Full Body (antagonist supersets)

Steve Holman after one month of X-Rep training

This is my back-off week, so I did full-body MMX on Monday; today, Thursday, I did a more abbreviated session, including opposing-muscle supersets–although some of them weren’t with antagonist supersets, as you’ll see… [Read more…]

Steve: Full-Body MMX (StatX)

Steve Holman after one month of X-Rep training

Last Monday I bumped up the intensity and volume a bit with a Rest/Pause add-on. Doing that on so many exercises that covered my entire body wiped me out (hey, I’m old–Lol), so I backed off today to just a StatX or X-Rep add-on. Drained at the end, but felt good–and the pump was excellent… [Read more…]

Steve: Full-Body MMX (high to low)

Steve Holman after one month of X-Rep training

Wednesday I did antagonist supersets, all moderate reps and the workout was reduced volume. Today it was back to MMX–high to low reps. Felt great–so good in fact that I may stick with the more abbreviated superset workout on Wednesdays. Hey, change to gain… [Read more…]

Steve: Full-Body MMX (antagonist supersets)

Steve Holman after one month of X-Rep training

Woke up feeling under the weather. I entertained the idea of missing, but I decided I wasn’t that bad off. All I needed was a shorter, less-intense version of MMX, which is where antagonist-muscle supersets come in. Supersets can be intense, but I did the first round as X-centric, a 1/6 rep cadence, on most exercises. I upped the weight for the second round and did around 10 reps for each exercise. Worked great, and I was done in about 35 minutes… [Read more…]

Steve: Full-Body MMX (Rest/Pause add-on)

Steve Holman after one month of X-Rep training

I discussed bumping up the intensity/volume with either an add-on drop set or rest/pause (R/P). The rest/pause add-on won (the number in parentheses)–but even that small amount of extra work with a static hold after, I had to cut it short, as you’ll see… [Read more…]
