It was all about getting back to business this morning. You may have noticed my schedule last week wasn’t exactly a regular one. It’s funny that after nearly 24 years of training, you still have to be ready for the unexpected. Nothing bad, just a week that had a lot of last-minute issues to deal with. Back to the muscle-blasting party this morning though… [Read more…]
Steve: Full-Body (opposing supersets)
Once I got started today, I realized that Wednesdays should actually be a pared down version of my Monday and Friday full-body workouts. That will create “undulating” intensity/volume to avoid overtraining. Unfortunately, I didn’t do much to downshift today. In fact, I began with a pretty rigorous superset of two types of squats and actually added a superset. D’oh!… [Read more…]
Steve: Full-Body (opposing-muscle supersets)
Felt a bit under the weather this morning–too much football watching yesterday maybe. Lol. I plowed through my workout of opposing-muscle supersets anyway, and it actually felt pretty good–although on the very first superset I had to substitute DB stiff-legged deadlifts for Flat-back hypers. Interesting how much more of a drain the deadlifts are… [Read more…]
Jonathan: Delts, Arms (wake-up wagon)
After a great weekend of nonstop family fun, activities, and late nights followed by the 3:30 a.m. shock of needing to make an airport run this morning, I needed to jump on the wake-up wagon in a bad way. Super-TORQ was just what the muscle doctor ordered…
Steve: Full-Body (antagonist-muscle supersets)
I hit the gym with a lot of motivation. My full-body workout was swirling in my head, and I was telling myself, “Okay, you need to add this for chest and that for delts.” Then I realized that the reason I was motivated: I was recovered from my last workout on Tuesday. Why add more work and possibly drain and overtrain myself? It’s one reason I often say that motivation can be your enemy. I came to my senses and pretty much mirrored Tuesday’s workout–with a few exercise switches… [Read more…]
Jonathan: Delts, Arms (Thunderstruck)
Today’s workout had me thunderstruck, just like our weather over the past 24 hours. Not only did we have the huge storm yesterday morning, but after a clear and sunny day, we ended up with an even bigger storm last night. Complete with flooded roads, 60-70 MPH winds, and plenty of downed trees in the neighborhood… [Read more…]
Jonathan: Delts, Arms (Labor Day)
POF
Late start on the workout, but it’s Labor Day, so no feelings of rushing to get things done. I was in the mood for a fairly “normal” workout, so I went with mostly basic POF moves, but used supersets on arms to keep the intensity up a bit… [Read more…]
Jonathan: Delts, Arms (Fast Friday)
POF MMX
That felt like an oddly fast Friday workout, but it turns out I was just focused and amped up. I also made it a point to stick with the 35-second rest periods to make sure everything moved along nicely for more density with my intensity… [Read more…]
Steve: Full Body (antagonist supersets)
This is my back-off week, so I did full-body MMX on Monday; today, Thursday, I did a more abbreviated session, including opposing-muscle supersets–although some of them weren’t with antagonist supersets, as you’ll see… [Read more…]
Jonathan: Delts, Arms (Swole Patrol)
Super-TORQ MMX
This morning’s workout proved that it’s much better to time your pre-training meals well. Arms were on swole patrol this morning, and I’m convinced that it’s because I got into the gym on time – for a change. I wasn’t hungry, so I seemed to have enough fuel to get a solid workout and a ridiculous pump…
