Jonathan: Delts, Arms (real-deal MMX)

Jonathan Lawson before after

POF MMX

I’ve been bouncing around with techniques and sticking with Super-TORQ MMX early in the week, but I went back to real-deal MMX today. It’s been a few weeks since I actually did it by the book, but it reminded me of how great the routine really is… [Read more…]

Steve: Full-Body MMX (antagonist supersets)

Steve Holman after one month of X-Rep training

Woke up feeling under the weather. I entertained the idea of missing, but I decided I wasn’t that bad off. All I needed was a shorter, less-intense version of MMX, which is where antagonist-muscle supersets come in. Supersets can be intense, but I did the first round as X-centric, a 1/6 rep cadence, on most exercises. I upped the weight for the second round and did around 10 reps for each exercise. Worked great, and I was done in about 35 minutes… [Read more…]

Jonathan: Legs (Wobbly Wednesday)

Jonathan Lawson before after

Super-TORQ MMX

I decided to suck it up and try Super-TORQ on a different quad exercise today. Great decision from a muscle-isolation standpoint, but it sure makes for a wobbly Wednesday… [Read more…]

Jonathan: Chest, Back, Abs (14-year anniversary)

Jonathan Lawson before after

Super-TORQ MMX

It was a celebratory Tuesday training blast this morning. Today marks the 14-year anniversary of when we first launched our X-Rep site with our first e-book, The Ultimate Mass Workout. I celebrated by trying not to cry from the deep muscle burn this morning. LOL… [Read more…]

Steve: Full-Body MMX (Rest/Pause add-on)

Steve Holman after one month of X-Rep training

I discussed bumping up the intensity/volume with either an add-on drop set or rest/pause (R/P). The rest/pause add-on won (the number in parentheses)–but even that small amount of extra work with a static hold after, I had to cut it short, as you’ll see… [Read more…]

Jonathan: Delts, Arms (fast muscle blast)

Jonathan Lawson before after

Super-TORQ MMX

I made a last-minute change as I walked into the gym this morning. Still loving the Super-TORQ, so I’m not changing that up quite yet, but I decided to change the exercises up to see how it would feel – as usual, the pump was unreal. The number of reps for the first few sets make it look like the workout will take forever, but the limited rest between sets makes it a pretty fast muscle blast…

Steve: Full-Body MMX (extended sets)

Steve Holman after one month of X-Rep training

The shapely blonde gal who was on the Smith machine Wednesday was on the leg extension today. Yep, again she got in my way–but that’s okay. I simply did calves first, which felt great. And on every exercise today I tried to do some form of extended sets–from X Reps to Static Holds to Supersets… [Read more…]

Jonathan: Delts, Arms (Flex Friday)

Jonathan Lawson before after

3D MMX

It’s a good thing I don’t have any mirrors in my gym, or I’d have been all over the Flex Friday party. LOL! Maybe not, but it was a great workout, and going from Super-TORQ early in the week to a more standard 3D/POF today is a great combo…

Steve: Full-Body MMX (mass mix-up)

Steve Holman after one month of X-Rep training

Felt great, very energetic, as I hit the gym at 6:50 this morning. I was psyched for Smith-machine squats–but a nice-looking gal was on it, so I had to start with Seated calf raises. Finished–she’s still on the Smith machine. On to chest. Done–she’s still on it. Damn. I got all the way through back before she was finally off. Sheesh. The silver lining is that I was more energetic for calves, chest and back–not having done Smith squats yet. More good news–anabolic drive was kicked up with squats right before delts and arms. So maybe this mass mix-up was a good thing–change to gain… [Read more…]

Jonathan: Legs (walking is overrated)

Jonathan Lawson before after

Super-TORQ MMX

I somehow managed to forget the grueling nature of my last Super-TORQ leg workout… At least until I walked into the gym this morning. Walking is overrated, so I went at it again – despite the fact that we’ll be walking our son to school and back today. I wonder if I can fit in his old stroller… [Read more…]
