What an incredible photo (we’re not sure who took it).

Zane’s physique is still considered an example of sculpted perfection today—chiseled muscle that seems within grasp.

Zane won the Mr. Olympia in 1977, ’78, and ’79 weighing less than 190 at 5’9”.

In fact, in clothes he didn’t look big at all—you probably wouldn’t ID him as a bodybuilder, yet he was one of the best ever.

The secret to Zane’s bodybuilding success wasn’t gargoyle mass but crisp definition with etched proportion.

He’s one of the bodybuilders who taught us that when you’re ripped, you look bigger than what the scale says.

In other words, if you want to look more massive than you really are, drop some fat. How?

You want to do it at a slow, methodical pace so you retain your muscle. Too fast and you starve away mass.
