This is a great photo of Lee Haney flexing at the beach. He’s a tad smooth, but what magnificent lines and symmetry—small waist, wide shoulders, flared quads…
Lee still trains hard today—but not too hard. He’s always used only moderate poundages, which is why he has zero injuries in his 60s. His famous quote says it all…
Exercise to stimulate, not annihilate.
Contrast that with the Mr. Olympias who trained with mega-heavy poundages. Most can’t train without severe pain, a number of them had to retire early, and some are nearly crippled.
We got on the “stimulate don’t annihilate” bandwagon as we approached middle age and started growing again pain-free.
We stopped the insanity just in time—before it was too late. That was after we finally embraced something legendary trainer Vince Gironda continually tried to hammer into out heads during many of his visits to our Iron Man offices: moderate weights and short rests are best—Density Training…
One reason it’s a superior way to build muscle is that it efficiently trains multiple muscle-fiber types—from slow-twitch to fast-twitch—and ignites a skin-stretching pump at every workout…
One of our favorite Density methods is outlined in our 4X Mass Workout ebook. We highly recommend you try 4X for multi-muscle-fiber growth success—with no joint stress.
And if you can’t let go of mega-heavy training, at least use 4X every few workouts to stimulate rather than annihilate…

Or for our other favorite density method, check out STX growth-threshold tactic based on an eye-opening Brazilian study. It’s all in our latest retooled ebook, that includes many mass-building home-gym workouts…

Till next time, train hard—and smart—for BIG results.

Mass-Building Lessons From the Master Trainer
Vince Gironda was the Iron Guru, a bodybuilding legend ahead of his time. His most famous pupil in the bodybuilding world was the very first Mr. Olympia Larry Scott, and he also trained many Hollywood stars back in the day, like Clint Eastwood, and even Arnold consulted with him and was a fan (even though Vince told Arnold that he was a “fat f**k” when he first arrived in the U.S.).
Many of Vince’s mass-building tricks and methods have been forgotten, buried by information and misinformation overload on the Internet, but now you can find them all, his true methods, in this must-have, 330-page Vince Gironda e-book anthology…
You get everything from “Train 21 Rest 7” to 10-8-6-15 to Vince’s Stone Age Nutrition, the 8×8 method and program and much, much more (remember, it’s 330 pages). And it’s on sale at a discount for a limited time: Simply use the code GIRONDA20 at checkout for an extra 20 percent off.
