Exercise to stimulate, not annihilate. Set small goals and build upon them.
Contrast that with the Mr. Olympias who trained with mega-heavy poundages. Most can’t train without severe pain, and some are nearly crippled.
We got on the “stimulate don’t annihilate” bandwagon as we approached middle age and got a jolt of wisdom. We had a few injuries from training too heavy—Steve has a bad shoulder from powerlifting bench pressing and Jonathan has recurring lower-back twinge from heavy squats. But that’s it.
